Canary Health’s New Director of Clinical Services – Coach Dawn

As Director of Clinical Services, I work to ensure quality coaching performance for all health coaches at Canary Health. I identify training and education needs for coaches, ensure completion of coach credentialing process, respond to clinical questions and work with staff team members on strategies to improve participant engagement and performance.

I was drawn this line of work because I have family members with diabetes.

Seeing them struggle with managing the disease led me to work with patients to help improve their outcomes.  A registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator, I’ve been working in the pre-diabetes and diabetes field for 20 years.  In my previous role with the American Association of Diabetes Educators, I was a Master Lifestyle Coach Trainer for the Diabetes Prevention Program.

As a VLM personal health coach myself,

I make sure to find out about my participants’ background and interests to help tailor my coaching.  When they encounter an obstacle, I help them problem-solve around the obstacle.  After all, everyone faces obstacles in our lives, and finding ways around them is within reach.  My favorite part of working with participants in the VLM program is hearing their success stories.  Finding out how a participant has lost weight or reduced their A1C is what motivates me.

I’m excited to join Canary Health in the role of Director of Clinical Services and work towards improving our services for both our coaches and our participants.

VLM Coaches Change Lives.

One VLM participant, John, has maintained the healthy habits he learned from VLM 5 years after completing the program. He credits this to his long-term behavior changes to his VLM coach.
