VA Expands its Caregiver Support Services

This Fall, VA Caregiver Support Services will be expanding their program of comprehensive assistance for family caregivers. Over the last 6 years, our Building Better Caregivers® (BBC) program has been available to all Caregivers who are caring for a Veteran from any era. To date over 9,000 Caregivers have enrolled in Building Better Caregivers. The majority have loved ones they are caring for that have had Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), a traumatic brain Injury (TBI) or other cognitive impairment, many of which resulted from a service-related injury. As the VA’s program expands, we are anticipating that we will see an increase in Caregivers who are participating in BBC who are caring for someone with an aging related condition like dementia, Alzheimer’s, or Parkinson’s, in addition to chronic conditions like diabetes and heart disease.  We welcome the addition of new Caregivers to our program and know the expansion will bring needed services to our former and future BBC graduates who are giving their all to care for their loved ones.
