The Healthcare Landscape Continues to Shift Toward Value-Based Care

by Laurel Fuqua, SVP of Clinical Operations

Having spent the majority of my career in pursuit of the cutting edge in chronic disease care, I am honored to be joining Canary Health, an organization that has not only been an early innovator in figuring out how to leverage digital technology and health coaching to improve outcomes in chronic diseases, but has also pioneered the role of narrative and storytelling as a key elements in helping individuals manage their own health.

It is particularly exciting to be joining Canary’s executive team at a true industry inflection point.

The healthcare landscape that is steering towards value-based care and reimbursement is challenging both payers and providers to focus more than ever on quality outcomes, evidence based interventions and prevention. For example, with MACRA, a bipartisan supported reimbursement change, physicians will financially benefit from demonstrating improved clinical outcomes, especially for populations with chronic conditions. There is also more consumerism than ever in healthcare and a shift towards individuals taking on more responsibility in managing their own health.

With these shifts, both payers and providers are looking for solutions like Canary Health’s that are easily scalable and that result in engaged/activated consumers.

I am looking forward to working with the Canary clinical team to help our clients and participants discover their healthcare stories and in impact people’s lives in a positive way.
